The Issue

100 million people

In the 1990’s Falun Gong was the fasted growing spiritual practice in China. Often referred as Falun Dafa, the teachings promote the principles of Truth, Compassion, and Tolerance. The practice also consists of four gentle standing exercises and a sitting meditation. It was supported and endorsed by Chinese authorities for the moral and health benefits it brought to society.

Large-scale persecution

But soon after, things took a drastic turn. The Chinese communist regime felt their power was threatened by the popularity of Falun Gong after seeing that 100 million people were practicing. Led by a few high-ranking officials, authorities ordered police to harass practitioners across the country, and demonizing Falun Gong in the news to win public support for their repression.

Crimes against humanity

Beginning on July 20, 1999 for the next two decades Falun Gong practitioners have been arrested and sentenced to prison terms in the Chinese regime’s efforts to eliminate freedom of belief. Tens of thousands have disappeared while in police custody—with reports of extreme abuse, including electric shock, beatings, rape, torture and horrifying evidence of forced organ harvesting.

No freedom of belief

At present, Christians, Catholics, Tibetan Buddhists, and Muslim Uighurs are at constant risk of detention and torture. Falun Gong practitioners make up one of the largest campaigns of religious persecution happening in the world over the past 20 years. Millions of innocent people in China are under threat simply for exercising their freedom of belief.
